Teddy Wayne tells us about the significance of the late 1990’s, in which his short novel Apartment is set. Apartment, which not a flashy thriller is thick with anxiety and awkwardness which will keep the pages turning as Wayne’s unnamed protagonist invites his classmate Billy to share an apartment with him. While at first subtle, the chasm between Billy’s background and the protagonists begins to splinter and leads the reader to question the true meaning of loneliness and privilege.
